What is BAF? The Bunker Adjustment Factor is a fuel surcharge added by carriers to offset bunker fuel cost changes. It is recalculated quarterly by most major carriers and quoted separately from the base ocean freight rate. For stone shipments โ which are heavy, non-perishable, and transported as break-bulk or full containers โ BAF applies at standard dry cargo rates.
